Day 42 – home projects

I am queen of procrastinating when it comes to home improvement projects. For example, I bought an expensive art piece for my living room in 2018, and I just hung it up yesterday.

In my defense, I had planned out a spot for it which required a sequence of furniture moves, this goes into that room, that goes into the garage. And then I’d need a new something too, to tie the wall together, and to not have a giant art piece with nothing underneath it. And all of that got put on hold last year because we were working on the bathroom remodel.

And now, I have my home office set-up there on that wall, and the art is too big to go above the computer monitor. So I decided to find a new place for it.

What do you think? Does it need to go higher? I put it as high as I could while standing on a chair and doing this all by myself.

Day 41 – social distancing :(

Recently, I’ve been thinking about what we’ve been calling social distancing. It’s such a frustrating term, isn’t it? Because, really, we’re all basically in quarantine, some of us alone. Yet we can still be social. We can talk on the phone, text, or have video chats. The goal is not to not be social, it’s to be physically separated to prevent the spread of a deadly virus.

For weeks, I’d been trying to pin down the phrase bothered me, and it hit me earlier this week when I heard Gavin Newsom speak and he used an alternate phrasing — “physical distancing.” Instantly, I knew that this small difference in word choice is the thing that has been bothering me.

Has anyone else had a similar reaction? To me, it feels like using that phrase is just adding to the stress of being at home, of feeling alone. I’m pretty sure that no one on the planet needs any additional anxiety at this time.

I’ve been trying to reach out to people I know might be alone, to stay in touch with my friends who I’m not able to see right now, and to reconnect with friends that I’ve been out of touch with.

By the way, I find the term “social distancing” unfortunate. It is physical distancing that we need in order to stop the virus transmission. Let’s never social distance. Let’s try in our modern age of the Internet, to do a better job with staying social.

So let’s stay home to save lives. Let’s practice physical distancing, but please, please, let’s stay socially connected and come together as a community, as a people, for the sake of humanity.

Day 40 -Friday 5 – covers

  1. What are you using for a face covering when you venture out? one of several masks that I ordered from Etsy
  2. What’s a recent cover you like of a song you already liked? I’m not sure I know of a recent cover of a song I already liked.
  3. How good are you at keeping track of food storage container lids? They are all in a pile next to the containers, so A+ for me, because I don’t think any are missing…
  4. When did you last cover for someone? I’m not sure, I don’t think anyone has asked me to cover for them in recent memory, and in general, I’m in favor of people owning stuff and not asking for someone to “cover” for them..
  5. In your residence, what has a special cover? The fire pit has a cover, beyond that, I can’t think of anything else….

Brought to you by Friday 5.
