Another week begins…

The Friday Five
There’s no F5 again this week, so I’ve decided to just randomly pick one that I never answered.
1. Where were you born (city or state or just country)?
Houston, but I’m a Californian girl at heart.
2. What is your favorite number?
I don’t have a favorite number. What exactly is the purpose of a favorite number anyway? I’ve never understood that.
3. Vanilla or chocolate?
I like both, but tend to dislike things that are overly chocolate.
4. What section of a bookstore would I find you in?
It depends. Some times I’m in the best sellers section, the literature section, the poetry section, sci-fi, horror, computer books…. let’s make this easy, let’s talk about what section you won’t find me in… the history section!
I was just at the bookstore on Friday, picked up three good books. Finished the first one, Syrup by Max Barry, over the weekend. It was quite funny and entertaining. I’ll have to write up a little review when I get a chance.
5. What kind of mattress do you have on your bed? soft? firm? water?
I have no idea. It’s a daybed, it’s been in my room since the early 80s. When I had my own bed, I had medium mattress, not too firm, not too soft. No idea what brand, I just bought whatever was on sale at the time!

Miscellaneous thoughts

“There’s always a struggle to get to that which is best for you, but there’s never a struggle for that which isn’t.”
One of my best friends once told me that awhile back, and I really think it’s true. I may complain that life is complicated, but I think I prefer it over boring. At least complicated gives me something more meaningful to think about other than what to cook for dinner or what TV show to watch tonight. And I’ve been in a surprisingly good mood lately, more so than I have been in quite some time I think.
A few people have asked what to get me for my birthday, and off hand I don’t have an answer, but there’s a good place to get ideas: Amazon.com!
And the last random thought of the day — Ryan updated his site, it looks good.

TGIF!

There’s no Friday Five today. Hmmpt! I finally attempt to complete it on Friday and it’s not there! Guess that means I have to think of something else to write about this fine Friday morning. The torrential rains of yesterday and last night have left us with a beautiful sunny day, at least for the time being.
I received an email last week from the infamous (to some) DD, in response to a message about my new cell number, asking what time would be good for him to call me. Since it was the weekend, I said anytime was fine, not really expecting a call, as that’s just the way things normally are. It’s impossible to explain my surprise when, not only did he call, he called from CA about an hour away from me.
Everyone’s got questions and I don’t know who has the answers. Someone actually wanted to make sure I wasn’t “getting into another mess” again. All I know is that as much as things have changed (and will continue to change), some things, surprisingly, stayed the same.
I have to say, I haven’t stayed up til 5am in a long time. And once again, I was up until past 5, slept until 7:30 and then tried to go to work. Needless to say, yesterday was a very, very long day for me. It’s amazing how much I missed being with someone who I get along with so well as to be able to stay up all night just talking. Friends like that are few and far between for me.

Friday comes and goes so quickly…

I’ve been doing a very poor job of getting these done on Fridays. Oh well, better late than never, eh?
Yesterday, I started a non-F5 entry titled “42 Thoughts” but it started to sound like a cliche/favorite quote list, so I have put it on hold momentarily.
The Friday Five
If you…
1. …owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?
Probably Italian. I’m 1/4 Italian, and I just love really, really good Italian food. I’m addicted to pasta, just another carb… BOO to low carb diets, give me my pasta and potatoes, my ice cream… =)
2. …owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell?
Books. Another addiction of mine. I love books.
3. …wrote a book, what genre would it be?
This is an interesting question, especially since I started writing a book/short story/novella a few months back. Made it to page four or so and lost my train of thought and my spark… I might pick it back up though. It was sort of modeled after I am Legend, which (for you movie buffs who don’t read) was modified into Omega Man with Charleston Heston. Too bad the movie took out the vampire element of the story, but it was still good, just not as good as the book, like so many movies I’ve seen.
4. …ran a school, what would you teach?
Biology. Of course, I’m not in any manner qualified for this, but maybe someday…. ?
5. …recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?
This one is tough. I’m just not musically talented. I had years of piano lessons and I can play Heart and Soul and chopsticks. I’d say, if I was going to record an album, it wouldn’t be MY music, unless a certain someone ever follows through on their years-old promise to teach me to play guitar. I’d pick The Suburban Vamps and make them the huge success they deserve to be.
