Friday, 4th of July!

the friday five
1. What were your favorite childhood stories?
I loved The BFG and James and the Giant Peach.
2. What books from your childhood would you like to share with [your] children?
All my favorites, there are so many good children’s books.
3. Have you re-read any of those childhood stories and been surprised by anything?
I re-read the Narnia Chronicles. When I was young, I hadn’t noticed the religious theme of the books.
4. How old were you when you first learned to read?
I don’t remember! I was probably in kindergarten.
5. Do you remember the first ‘grown-up’ book you read? How old were you?
I read a lot of ‘grown-up’ books when I was young, but the one that strikes me is Hasan, (or was it Mute?) by Piers Anthony. My mom bought it for me, as Anthony was recommended by a friend of hers. I think at that age, 11 or so, I could have done without the steamy sex scenes. Anthony’s other works, such as the Xanth series, are really more kid friendly.

FRIDAY WOO

the friday five
1. How are you planning to spend the summer [winter]?
I plan on spending the summer at pool and out playing with my dogs as much as possible.
2. What was your first summer job?
I worked at the local video store.
3. If you could go anywhere this summer [winter], where would you go?
Hmm… I would go to an island and spend all my time learning to surf… I even know someone *wink* who I would drag with me, if they had the time.
4. What was your worst vacation ever?
My spring break in Las Vegas. My ex didn’t want to go at the last minute, so I spent the week at home moping about how I wasted a lot of money on plane tickets and didn’t go anywhere!
5. What was your best vacation ever?
I really had a lot of fun on my last vacation, which was visiting my parents and traveling California. Catalina Island is awesome!

Sunday, fun day

Normally, I’m a lazy bum on Sundays. Every now and then, I’ll go shopping or do laundry, clean my room… but usually I’m lazy on Sundays.
Not today. Within 10 minutes of getting out of bed, I was on my way down to the unoffical “dog park” in my neighborhood. Spent about 45 minutes down there with my babies and Danielle and her dog, Scout. Then we came back and went to the pool for 2 hours. Did some swimming, got a nice tan, that’s now bright red… ha. After the pool, I took a shower, dropped Danielle off at the store. Went to Comp USA to replace my keyboard (yes, Bailey ruined another keyboard — this time it was red wine instead of water — the good news is the new keyboard is “spillproof” and only cost $9.99!!).
After all that, we went BACK to the “dog park” for another hour and a half. I’m sure that helped the sunburn, altho I did put on sunscreen at that point.
Finally ate dinner (and lunch and breakfast, unless the candy bar in the counts for something??) at 8ish, and finished watching “Life is Beautiful”. I thought it was a really good movie, but I don’t understand why Guido had to (SPOILER — skip to next paragraph if you don’t want the movie ending given away) die at the end. Other than that, I thought it was really well done, and I’m going to watch it again this week with the English language track… the subtitles were cool and I liked listening to the Italian, but I’ve heard it’s good both ways.
Now I’m just chillin’, putting aloe on my burns and waiting until it’s time to go get B at the airport. When I agreed to pick him up, I had no idea it would be at 11:45 pm. I thought 11:00 maybe… HA. And his flights late by at least 10 minutes. It better not be any later than that, or he’ll just have to find another way home.
I’m gonna sleep well tonight!
